One of the most popular modern styling aids, hair mousse is sort of a cross between hair spray and gel. Hair mousse is an aerosol foam that adds volume and shine to any style. Mousse can be used for styling wet or dry hair – and often contains conditioning agents to protect your hair as well as providing lift and shape. Generally, mousse gives the best results when applied to damp hair before blow drying.
Of all the hair styling lotions and potions available, it’s mousse that many experts consider the most versatile. There are a variety of hold strengths, which is a good thing because slapping more and more mousse onto your hair won’t help it hold the desired shape better. Too much mousse will weigh your hair down and make it difficult to style. Mousse is great for getting that ‘still wet’ look without ending up with crunchy curls – just use a little dab in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together until all the mousse is translucent and run your fingers gently through your hair. For the best result, towel dry your hair until it’s just damp before applying the mousse.
Leading brands in the hair care aisle all make mousses – but some are more popular than others. John Frieda’s collection of colour-based mousses are exceptionally popular, as are Nicky Clarke’s collection of mousse products geared toward providing more and more boost for your style. Other popular mousse brands include VO5, Wella, Revlon and Sunsilk.
Like most styling products, it’s easy to buy mousse online. There are scores of beauty supply shops operating online and buying in bulk can save you even more. Aim to buy from online beauty suppliers with clear return policies, and whenever possible buy just one of a new hair mousse before committing to larger quantities – the savings might be great, but that’s meaningless if you don’t like the way the mousse works with your hair.
